Pupiao Fm
Type Locality and Naming
The type section is at Pupiao in Baoshan County, Yunnan. It is 780 m thick. The Pupiao Fm is derived from the Pupiao Bed proposed by C.J. Brown in 1916. The Pupiao Fm is derived from the Pupiao Bed proposed by C.J. Brown in 1916.
Brown named it the Pupiao Bed in 1916. In 1947, Sun Y.C. divided it into the Middle Ordovician Lower Pupiao Bed and Late Ordovician Upper Pupiao Bed. Zhang (1962) renamed it the Pupiao Fm, and subdivided it into two parts. Sheng Xinfu (1963) renamed Sun's Lower Pupiao Bed and Upper Pupiao Bed the Lower Pupiao Fm and Upper Pupiao Fm, which was widely accepted by the production units and institutes. Considering the similar lithology and fauna of the Lower Pupiao Fm and Upper Pupiao Fm, the present book merges these two formations into one, i.e., the Pupiao Fm.
